Who it's for

Lawyers who have done the work.

Senior partner stepping back from firm life

Want to pick engagements you actually enjoy without the BD treadmill, billing targets, or partnership politics.

Senior associate going independent

Building a flexible practice. Want curated, well-scoped briefs from real buyers instead of cold pitching for work.

In-house lawyer between roles

Six to twelve months of project work between permanent in-house roles, without becoming a full-time consultant.

Returning parent or carer

Want 2-3 days a week of senior work at a senior rate. Not contract review at junior rates.

How it works for you

From application to first invoice.

  1. 1

    Apply to join

Submit your practising certificate, two references, and a short panel interview with our compliance lead. We accept ~30% of applicants.

  2. 2

    Set your rate and availability

Publish your daily rate (visible to buyers, hidden from other lawyers). Set your availability windows and the matter types you take.

  3. 3

    Conflict-clear and receive briefs

When a buyer brief matches your areas and clears conflicts, we surface it. You see the scope, parties, and budget before you accept.

  4. 4

    Accept the intro

Your identity is revealed to the buyer only when you accept the intro. Decline-without-stigma is built into the workflow.

  5. 5

    Work and get paid

My Legal Connect invoices the buyer and pays you on net-7 terms regardless of when the buyer pays us. No chasing.

FAQ

Common questions from lawyers.

Will my current employer or firm see that I'm on the platform?
No. Profiles are first-name only until an intro is accepted. Your full identity, firm history, and practising certificate are visible only to the buyer who matches and only after you accept the intro. Firm partners and recruiters cannot browse the roster.
Why are daily rates hidden from other lawyers?
To prevent rate inflation and protect supply integrity. Rates are visible to buyers (so they can decide) and to you (so you set yours). Lawyers see the buyer's budget signal, not other lawyers' rates.
What rate should I set?
Senior lawyers on the platform currently set daily rates between AUD $1,400 and $1,800. Your rate is yours to set. Buyers see your rate; we add a transparent margin disclosed in the engagement letter.
What if I am conflicted on a brief?
Our compliance lead pre-screens conflicts against your declared engagements, current and prior employers, and matter history before any brief reaches you. If a conflict surfaces after you see the brief, decline without stigma.
Am I an employee, contractor, or sole trader?
Engagement structure is determined by the engagement profile and the matter. We support contractor engagements (most common for senior independent lawyers), PAYG via labour-hire (for return-to-work and parental-leave cohorts), and pass-through to your own incorporated practice.
How are PI insurance and trust account handled?
My Legal Connect is a registered Australian law firm and holds firm-level PI insurance that covers every engagement run through us. You do not need to maintain separate cover for MLC engagements. We do not operate a trust account; we do not hold client money.
What if I want to take a client off-platform?
Engagement letters include a 12-month direct-engagement restraint on platform-introduced buyers. Existing pre-platform relationships are excluded. The restraint exists to protect supply incentives, not to lock you in indefinitely.
How many briefs will I see?
Highly variable by area and rate. As an indicative range, senior corporate-commercial lawyers see 4-8 conflict-cleared briefs per month at platform launch.
